If you are unsure which federal electorate you live in or who your local MP is, find out here: http://apps.aec.gov.au/esearch/ (Australian Electoral Commission website).

The most important contribution you can make to the campaign for equal marriage rights is to contact your federal member of parliament.

Tips for Contacting Your MP

It is vital that your local federal member of parliament knows how important equality is to you.

All contact, even a pro forma email or letter, is useful. Even more effective is a personally written email, letter or phone call.

But nothing beats a personal visit.

MPs need to meet those of us effected by Australia's discriminatory marriage laws and our families and friends. The more of us they meet, the more difficult it becomes for them to justify the current unequal marriage laws.

If you would like further advice on what to say or how to approach your MP, or to let us know how your meeting went, send us an email at ame@australianmarriageequality.com
