MARK COLVIN: Despite Labor’s opposition to same sex marriage in Australia, the Federal Government is going to help smooth the path for couples who want to marry overseas.
From next week, the Commonwealth will begin providing gay and lesbian couples with an internationally recognised certificate which is a legal prerequisite to marriage.
Until now, the Government only provided the certificate for heterosexual couples.
