‘PERFECT HOSTESS’: PM opens up on gay marriage

‘PERFECT HOSTESS’: PM opens up on gay marriage
mX News – Melbourne, Australia. February 22, 2012.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard hosted a dinner party at The Lodge last night with her cavoodle Reuben, with First Bloke Tim interstate.

Gillard was “the perfect hostess” for a group of gay marriage advocates and even answered the front door, guest Sandy Miller said.

The Sydney primary teacher, 40, said Gillard told the three couples that gay marriage was certain to happen in Australia.

“She did tell us that it was gaining momentum and that same-sex marriage was inevitable,” Miller said.

“Our question to her was: We’d like to ask you to our wedding and when do you think that’ll be?’

“She laughed and said: ‘I’m not sure’.” Miller said she was disappointed that Reuben was Gillard’s wingman for the night after her partner Tim Mathieson couldn’t make it. The couples dined on an entree of Roquefort mousse with beetroot and hazelnuts with olive croutons, then ocean trout wrapped in prosciutto for main, and licorice allsorts sorbet with candy floss and meringue for dessert.

It was washed down with an Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc and a Tasmanian pinot noir . Reuben broke some awkward silences during pre-dinner drinks by squeaking his toys. When the time came, he obediently went to his room.

“It was like going to a friend’s house,” Miller said.

“It was chatty – the vibe was that she put us at ease ’cause we were all quite nervous.”
