Tasmanians 4 Equality

Join David Foster and other prominent Tasmanians at a forum about same-sex marriage on Sep 13th in Hobart.

David Foster, Tasmanian world champion axeman.

The forum at the Backspace Theatre will be addressed by MPs, commentators and community representatives. It will look at why same-sex couples should be allowed to marry, as well as the possibility of state-based same-sex marriage laws (further details below. RSVP: Michael Cain, mike.cain@bigpond.com).

Polls show a majority of Tasmanians believe same-sex couples should be able to marry, with support in Tassie higher than any other state. To write to Tasmania’s federal MPs in support marriage equality, or to find out more about state-based same-sex marriage laws, click on the buttons below.

Should Tasmania be the first State to enact Same-Sex Marriage?

Do you support Same-Sex Marriage? A recent poll has shown as many as 74per cent of Tasmanians believe same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. Do you have questions that are unanswered? Do you support same-sex marriage and want to know more about how reform can happen?

Come along and hear why marriage equality is important, and how Tasmania has an opportunity to lead the nation on the issue. Our panel includes a legal expert, political leaders, community advocates and parents standing up for the rights of their same-sex attracted children.

The panellists are:

1. David Foster – A Tasmanian dad of a lesbian daughter, and world champion axeman.

2. Greg Barns – Lawyer and columnist for the Mercury.

3. Els McIntosh – A Tasmanian mum of a gay son.

4. Martine Delaney – Transgender woman living in a same-sex relationship.

5. Rodney Croome – Tasmanian gay rights activists, and national marriage equality advocate.

6. Nick McKim MP – Greens Leader and same-sex marriage law sponsor.

This free event will be hosted by Greens Member for Denison, Cassy O’Connor MP, and the Denison Greens branch. The event is co-sponsored by Australian Marriage Equality and Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
